“Mahalaya- The Beginning”: An exhibition of Painting by Souradeep Pal at Altamira Art Gallery
With Durga Puja around the corner, an exhibition of paintings by Souradeep Pal, named “Mahalaya-The Beginning”, is being hosted at Altamira Art Gallery. The Exhibition has been inaugurated by eminent Artists Shatadal Biswas, Debangshu Das and Ranjan Chatterjie on 24th September, on the eve of Mahalaya, and will continue till 26th September.
Considering that the artist, Souradeep, is just a class XII student of DPS Ruby Park and this is his first art exhibition, the visual treat is praiseworthy. It’s commendable that a boy of his age has painted on paper as well as on canvas using different mediums and styles with such maturity.
Also commendable is his effort of co-hosting the paintings of resident boys of Karunamoyee Ashram, Tollygunge to encourage their talent as well. Some of the paintings by Souradeep are kept for sale, and the artist wishes to offer the proceed of this exhibition for the benevolence of the Karunamoyee Ashram boys.
Souradeep’s paintings include, ‘The Bridge’, Acrylic on Canvas, that makes us think to search our own self; ‘Spring’, Oil paint on Canvas, is a beautiful serene landscape where you appreciate the play of lights on the nature; ‘Kobiguru’– Acrylic on Canvas using spatula, is a very bold and powerful image of Bishwakobi Rabindra Nath Tagore. His water colours, ‘Golden Afternoon’ and ‘Lonely Fisherman’, Pochishe Boisakh’, ‘Soaking in Rain’ are very impressive and testimony of the talent he holds. Pencil sketch, ‘Load’ displays his powerful lines and is a very meaningful piece of art. When you see a teenage boy makes his own world of expression by his paintings, and gets so deep inside into each minute details of the subjects then you feel that world is blessed to have such talents.
Souradeep has great power of visualization; he is passionate about his paintings, often immersing himself for hours into his art work. He is also enthusiastic about encouraging kids taking up paintings as a way to express themselves. That led to him getting connected with the resident boys of Karunamoyee Ashram. This year Souradeep has done his Senior Diploma in Painting from Bangiya Sahitya Parishad. He has learned paintings under the tutelage of eminent artist Sri Shatadal Biswas.
Commenting on the exhibition and particularly on Souradeep’s paintings, Ms Ranjana Chatterjie, the Artist, Curator and the Proprietor of the Art Gallery said, “It’s the passion and wonderful mature creations of a teenage boy that attracted me and we feel extremely happy to be able to host his first exhibition. Souradeep holds a great promise as an artist. Also, his decision of co-hosting the art work of Ashram boys has really touched me”.

‘মহালয়া- দি বিগিনিং’
সৌরদীপ পালের চিত্র প্রদর্শনী
‘আশ্বিনের শারদপ্রাতে বেজে উঠেছে আলোক মঞ্জীর; তাই আনন্দিতা শ্যামলীমাতৃকার চিন্ময়ীকে মৃন্ময়ীতে আবাহন’। আলতামিরা, কলকাতার অন্যতম আর্ট গ্যালারি তে ২৪ সে সেপ্টেম্বর থেকে ২৬ সে সেপ্টেম্বর পর্যন্ত চলবে ‘মহালয়া, দা বিগিনিং’ এই প্রদর্শনী।, বিখ্যাত চিত্রকর শ্রীযুক্ত শতদল বিশ্বাস, শ্রীযুক্ত দেবাংশু দাস, এবং আর্টিস্ট ও এই আর্ট গ্যালারি র কিউরেটর শ্রীমতী রঞ্জনা চ্যাটারজি উদ্বোধন করেছেন। সৌরদীপ পালের তুলি রঙে অপূর্ব ভাবে সেজে উঠেছে প্রদর্শনী।
ডি পি এস রুবি পার্কে ক্লাস টুয়েলভের সাইন্সের ছাত্র, সৌরদীপ বিভিন্ন মাধ্যমে, বিভিন্ন ডিজাইনে, রঙে এত সুন্দর ওর আঁকা ফুটিয়ে তুলেছে যে তা দেখলে চোখ ফেরানো যায় না। ও খুব ছোট থেকেই শ্রীযুক্ত শতদল বিশ্বাস মহাশয়ের কাছে আঁকা শিখতে আরম্ভ করে, দীর্ঘ বারো বছর ধরে গড়ে উঠেছে গুরু শিশ্যের এক সুন্দর সম্পর্ক। এবছর সৌরদীপ বঙ্গীয় সাহিত্য পরিষদের সিনিয়র ডিপ্লোমা পেন্টিঙ্গে দিয়েছে। ওর গুরুর ভাষায়, ‘সৌরদীপ যখন আঁকে তখন ও ডুবে যায়, মন প্রান দিয়ে ও আঁকে’। সে কথার প্রতিফলন পরিস্কার বোঝা যায় ওর জলরঙে, কখনও তেলচিত্র আবার আয়ক্রিলিক বা পেনসিলের স্কেচে। প্রতিটি আকায় ওর শক্ত হাতের টান, দরাজ ভাবনার ছোঁয়া আর পুঙ্ঘানুপুঙ্ঘ দিকে সতর্ক চোখ।
সৌরদীপের যোগাযোগ রয়েছে টালিগঞ্জে করুনাময়ী মা করুনাময়ী রামকৃষ্ণ সেভাশ্রমের বাচ্চাদের সাথে। সেই বাচ্চাদের ও বেশ কিছু ছবি সৌরদীপ রেখেছে ওর গ্যালারিতে। অনাবিল আনন্দে বাচ্চাদের আঁকা ছবিতে ফুটে উঠেছে ওদের মনের রঙ। সেই সাথে সৌরদীপের গুরুর আরো কিছু ছাত্র ছাত্রীদের আকাও রয়েছে এই প্রদর্শনীতে। আলতামিরা গ্যলারি বিভিন্ন রঙে, ভাবনায় সেজে উঠেছে মহালয়ার প্রাক্কালে। সৌরদীপ তার কিছু ছবি বিক্রির জন্যও রেখেছে, ওর ইচ্ছে যা পয়সা আসবে তা যাবে ঐ আশ্রমের বাচ্চাদের আঁকার জন্য। যখন পৃথিবী লড়াই করছে বিভিন্ন সমস্যায়, তখন তরুন সৌরদীপের এই ভাবনার জন্য কুর্নিশ জানিয়েছেন শ্রীমতী রঞ্জন চ্যাটারজি মহাশয়া।
‘দা ব্রিজ’ সৌরদীপের একটা ছবির সামনে দাঁড়িয়ে থাকলে অবাক হয়ে যেতে হয় ওর দেখার গভীরতা দেখে। ‘স্প্রিং’, তৈলচিত্র টি দেখে চোখ ফেরানো যায় না, মন যেন টেনে নিয়ে যায় ঐ দূর সীমানায়। ‘কবিগুরু’, বিশ্বকবি রবীন্দ্রনাথ ঠাকুরের যে ভাব ও ফুটিয়েছে আয়ক্রিলিকে তা নজর কাড়বেই। জলরঙে একের পর এক, কাকেরা বৃষ্টিতে ভিজচ্ছে, কালো মেঘে আকাশ ভাঙ্গা- সেখানে একা মাঝি, ‘সোনার হরিন’, ‘ট্রানকুইল’ – দেখবার মত সব আঁকা এই প্রদর্শনীতে। ‘আমার জগত খুঁজে পাই যখন আমি আকি’, সৌরদীপের নিজের কথায়; যা একদম বাস্তব ওর ছবিতে।
এ প্রদর্শনী শুধু আঁকা দেখা নয়, এর মধ্যে রয়েছে তরুন প্রজন্মের ভাবনা ও গভীরতা। এক নতুন শুরু হোক, অনুপ্রেরণা পাবে অনেক মন এ গ্যালারি দেখে। আর সৌরদীপ এবং আরো যারা একেছেন সবার জন্য রইল অনেক শুভ কামনা। মা দুর্গার আশীর্বাদে অনেক শক্তি নিয়ে সৌরদীপের আঁকার আঙিনা ভরে উঠুক।
